Text-to-Join (SMS opt-in)
eAdventist provides a simple way for people to "opt in" to SMS messages from your Messaging List. This also ensures that you meet the US requirements for Toll-free SMS phone numbers.
April 10, 2025: We have been required to switch from the "Invitation" method of opt-in for SMS to a "Text-to-Join" method. To help you transition, eAdventist will continue to support "Invitation" opt-in until April 20. When you add a new Subscriber, eAdventist will send an SMS invitation - they can reply YES to opt in.
People
The People section of eAdventist is for your church "family" (e.g. members, nonmember spouses and children, nonmembers who attend frequently). Display the following information:
- on signs in the church lobby
- in the church bulletin
- on screen in the sanctuary
- on church web site

Text JOIN to 833-123-4567 to receive SMS notifications for members.
When a person texts JOIN to your SMS number, eAdventist looks for a Person with the sender's mobile phone number. If a match is found, the Person has opted in.
If no match is found, eAdventist replies with a link to add their name and email. This information is saved in JOIN Requests - for you to review and find a matching Person. When you find a match, the Person's mobile phone and email will be updated, if necessary.
Text-to-Join provides an easy way to collect mobile phone numbers and email for your members.
Contacts
The Contacts section of eAdventist is for your church "friends" (e.g. visitors, interests, members elsewhere, community contacts). Display the following information:
- on signs in the church lobby
- in the church bulletin
- on screen in the sanctuary
- on church web site

Text GUEST to 833-123-4567 to receive SMS notifications for guests.
When a person texts GUEST to your SMS number, eAdventist looks for a Contact with the sender's "Mobile phone" number. If a match is found, the Contact has opted in.
If no match is found, eAdventist creates a Contact and replies with a link to add their name and email.
